Ilja Stahl is a photographer and filmmaker born in West-Berlin.
He studied art direction at the Red and Yellow College in Capetown, producing several published advertising spots and campaigns.
Later he focused on experimental filmmaking and photography before studying art at the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne.
During his studies, he extended his field of work to documentaries and animations.
His latest film project “Touching Concrete“ shot in Johannesburg´s notorious District Hillbrow, is a situationistic walk departing from the question: „does the city belong to the people or the people to the city?“
Since his childhood, photography has been an important medium to capture his daily life, feelings and thoughts in a personal and poetic style.
